About Me

I’ve lived in Oregon since 2006. I enjoy hiking, yoga, kickboxing, cycling, climbing, and paddle sports. I like relaxing with my 5-year-old daughter, friends and family. I also love traveling and have visited West and South Africa, Central and South America, Asia, and Europe. Australia and Antarctica are next!

I have been a therapist since 2009 and worked in mental health since 2001. I earned my Master’s in Applied Psychology in Mental Health Counseling from Southern Oregon University in 2009 and a bachelor’s in Psychology from the University of California, Santa Cruz, in 2003. I have experience in many settings, including hospitals for adults with serious mental illness, residential programs for teens, foster care for children and youth, community services for families in crisis, outpatient mental health for adults, and research with young people facing suicidal thoughts and self-harm.lts struggling with suicidal thoughts and self-harming behaviors. I work full-time at Kaiser Permanente’s Center for Health Research and have a small, part-time private practice.

I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Oregon. My license is registered under Kristen Semelsberger. License number is C5039; you can find me here on the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists.

My favorite way of spending time is hiking with my pup in the beauty of the Pacific Northwest.

My Approach

I am a person-centered therapist who works with clients in a simple and caring way. I don’t claim to have quick fixes. I believe you know yourself best. Sometimes, you just need an outside view to help see things more clearly.

When we meet, I will ask about you, your current problems, lifestyle, how these affect your daily life, and your counseling goals. Therapy is a process, and I don’t think you need it forever. Sometimes life events cause temporary stress. Therapy helps find these stresses, understand how you react, and work toward changes that make life better.

I have many years of experience helping with depression, anxiety, trauma, crisis, and family issues. I work with respect for different cultures and support LGBTQIA+ people.
